Classification by Machine Room Structure

This type of elevator has a machine room at the top to house the electrical panel and traction machine.

Advantages:

• Easy rescue in case of power failure

• Cost-effective maintenance

Disadvantages

• Unfavorable when building height is restricted (machine room height is usually 2200mm)

• Operation is not as smooth as a machine-room-less elevator

• May cause environmental pollution due to periodic gearbox oil replacement.

Machine-Room-Less Home Elevator

This type of elevator has the traction machine located in the hoistway, and the electrical panel is placed in front of the top floor.

Advantages:

• Uses a gearless motor, compact size, saves construction space.

• Suitable when building height is restricted; no need to spend money building a machine room.

• Smooth operation

• Environmentally friendly

Disadvantages:

• Higher maintenance costs than elevators with a machine room; however, the benefits of machine-room-less elevators far outweigh the costs.
