Pneumovax 23 Vaccine 23-valent Pneumococcal

Pneumovax 23 is a multivalent polysaccharide vaccine, used to prevent infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria (pneumococcus). The vaccine protects against the 23 most common pneumococcal serotypes, helping to reduce the risk of serious diseases such as pneumonia, meningitis, bacteremia, and pneumococcal complications.

Ingredients & Dosage:

Each 0.5 mL vial contains 25 micrograms of polysaccharide from each of the 23 pneumococcal serotypes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6B, 7F, 8, 9N, 9V, 10A, 11A, 12F, 14, 15B, 17F, 18C, 19A, 19F, 20, 22F, 23F, 33F).

Dosage form: injectable solution, available in vials or pre-filled syringes.

Target Users & Dosage:

For children aged 2 years and older, adolescents, and adults, especially the elderly or those with underlying medical conditions, and immunocompromised individuals.

One 0.5 mL vial = 1 primary dose. For high-risk individuals, a booster shot may be given after approximately 5 years.

Mechanism of Action:
The vaccine introduces bacterial capsular polysaccharides into the body to stimulate the immune system to produce specific antibodies against 23 pneumococcal serotypes, helping the body recognize and eliminate bacteria upon invasion.

Indications for Prevention:
Prevents diseases caused by pneumococcus such as pneumonia, meningitis, bacteremia, and severe pneumococcal complications.

Storage:
Store refrigerated at 2–8 °C, do not freeze, avoid direct light. Each vial is for single use, use before the expiration date.
