Operating principle of Hach B3500C
TIC
Acid is added to lower the pH to drive inorganic carbon components into CO2 gas. This determination step ensures that Total Inorganic Carbon (TIC) is not carried over into the TOC determination step.
Oxidation
BioTector with TSAO oxidation method achieves complete oxidation of the sample containing organic carbon into CO2. TSAO utilizes hydroxyl radicals generated by combining oxygen passed through an ozone generator reacting with NAOH.
TOC
To remove CO2 from the oxidized sample, the pH of the sample must be lowered again. The CO2 gas is blown into the NDIR CO2 measuring chamber. The result displayed is Total Organic Carbon (TOC).
