The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is a new EU mechanism aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from products imported into the EU. It's considered a mirror image of the EU ETS for goods produced outside and imported into the EU. CBAM officially took effect, with a transitional phase starting in October 2023. Importers will officially have to "pay" for greenhouse gas emissions exceeding the EU limit from 2026. Therefore, CBAM has, is, and will affect Vietnamese businesses exporting to the EU.
